DYUTI SAUNIK

I study political representation, local democracy, and bureaucracy, with a focus on what elected representatives do when they are held responsible for outcomes they do not have the authority to implement on their own. I ask why representatives facing similar institutional conditions pursue different strategies and differ in their capacity to secure a response.

India is the principal setting for my research. Its local institutions make visible broader questions about representation, bureaucratic power, constituency service, and democratic accountability.
